If you are planning a trip
to Paris and taking the kids, you will want to make sure that
they see sights appropriate to their age and you will probably
want it to be educational as well.
There are a number of places you can visit with
your children. Some of them will be educational and others will
be pure fun. For example, there are puppet shows. Puppet shows
are held at the Champ de Mars. The language is French but it is
usually easy for the kids to figure out what is going on and
join in the fun. Other puppet shows are held at the
Champs-Elysee and Jardin du Luxembourg.
Everybody loves Mickey Mouse and his friends.
Your kids can enjoy a visit to Disneyland just outside
Paris.
If you are interested in Americans who have
visited Paris, there is an area known as the Yankee Alleyway,
Ru-Monsirus-6-Prince. This area marks the 1959 visit of Martin
Luther King, Jr., to novelist Richard Wright. In this area also
is a famous diner, Haunts of Kerouac and the famous
Hemingway.
Another interesting area is the Catacombs. This
is an underground tunnel and is suited for older children who
are not afraid of skeletons and skulls. The Catacombs have more than 3,000 feet of dank
walkways. You and your children will learn about the more
than 6 million skulls and cross-bone skeletons. The area
was opened in 1818 and was used by the French Resistance
during WWII as its headquarters and also as a military
cemetery.
After learning about history, your children may
enjoy shopping at the malls and shops along the avenues and
boulevards of the city. There are sidewalk vendors and many
places to buy ice cream and cold drinks.
When it is time for dinner, there are many
restaurants you can find for dining. You can eat outside at a
sidewalk cafe or enjoy an excellent meal at any number of fine
restaurants. After dinner, you can take in a movie. Some of
them may have English subtitles.
A trip to Paris can be both fun and educational
for your children.
