Paris Travel Guide: Planning Your Trip to Paris

Paris is a beautiful city filled with a lot of sights and sounds. Of course, one of the most beautiful and well-known sights is the Eiffel Tower. But there are many museums, beautiful parks, and other historical buildings to see.

When you start thinking about your trip to Paris, you may want to purchase a guide book. There are a number of them on the market. On my second trip to Paris, I purchased an Eyewitness Travel Guide which I found to be very helpful.

Another consideration in planning your trip is whether you will work with a travel agent or plan your own trip. When working with a travel agent, your airfare and hotel reservations can be made at one time. There are a number of package deals for you to select from. In addition, there may be tours that are included in the package.

Guided tours are a great way to see Paris if you do not feel comfortable touring the city on your own. You can prepay for some of them when you book your trip or you can purchase individual tours when you arrive in Paris. You may want to select some guided tours and then select others after you arrive. One of the best ways to see Paris is by exploring it on your own.

When you take a guided tour, the tour guide will tell you about each stop along the way. Stops during guided tours include the Louvre. It is a beautiful building which has been enhanced by a Pyramid. When you walk along the outside of the building, there is a fountain at the front entrance. The walkway around the fountain takes you to the entrance. The entrance is through the Pyramid designed by architect I. M. Pei and was opened in 1989. Inside the Pyramid is a winding staircase which takes you straight to the top.

Other places that are on guided tours usually include the Palais Royal and the Jardin des Tuileries. In the same area is the Place de la Concorde. If you take a night tour through this area, you will see the many lights of Paris including Les Champs Elysees.

There are also flying tours of Paris and boat trips down the Seine River.

A must-see on a trip to Paris is the Cathedral of Notre Dame with its beautiful windows and tapestries.

Whether you take guided tours only or if you decide to explore on your won, the city of Paris will be educational and exciting. Its atmosphere will envelope you and you will want to return to see the sights you missed on this trip.
